Part of The Unitarian Church of Montreal fonds

This sub-series contains the registers of acts of civil service kept by the church from 1845 to present. Acts of civil service recorded include births, baptisms, marriages and burials. Earlier records are more likely to record baptisms, while later are more likely to record just births.

On average, the 30 volumes in this sub-series span roughly 6 years with the shortest being volume 28 (August 21, 1993 to December 26, 1993) and the longest being volume 7 (December 20, 1893 to December 30, 1905).

There is a card catalogue for this sub-series in a locked in a file cabinet in the lay chaplains office. Each card contains the name and details of the act of civil service performed, along with the volume and page number of where the act can be found in the registers.

UCM-SE7 · Series · 1845-2024
Part of The Unitarian Church of Montreal fonds

This series contains registers of acts of civil service performed by the Church from 1845 to present and copies of declarations of marriage sent to le Directeur de l'état civil.

Records of acts of civil service are recorded in bound registers as well as in copies of declarations of marriage sent to le Directeur de l'état civil. Although a register is still kept, in 1993 le Directeur de l’état civil began to collect their own records, making the register redundant. Consequently, acts of civil service are not reliably recorded in registers past 1993.

Annual reports
UCM-SE5 · Series · 1869-2018
Part of The Unitarian Church of Montreal fonds

This series contains the annual reports created by the Church from 1869-2018. Annual reports after 2018 can be found in UCM-SE2 Minute books.

The annual reports in this series include reports from the active minister as well as from various church officers and organizations, financial reports and minutes from the annual meetings. They also occasionally include reports from other church districts and reports back from larger denominational meetings.

From 1974 to 2018 there are annual reports from each year. No annual reports exist earlier than 1869 and there are also none from the following years: from 1869 to 1898, 1901 to 1927, 1935 to 1944, 1948 to 1951, 1958, and from 1969 to 1973.

UCM-SE9 · Series · 1858-[after 1989]
Part of The Unitarian Church of Montreal fonds

This series contains records related to the Church property on the corner of Beaver Hall Hill and la Gauchetière street. It includes a handwritten ledger of costs associated with the construction of the second church building on the property from 1858, as well as photocopies of "Montreal then and Now" articles, about the church building, from the Montréal Gazette written in the 1980s.

The Church was located on this property from 1844 until 1905. During this time, the Church was housed in two buildings, one built in 1845 and another in 1858. The latter of these buildings was partially destroyed by fire in 1869 and rebuilt. In 1907 the congregation moved to the property located at the corner of Sherbrooke and Simpson streets.

Calendars
UCM-SE1-SU2 · Subseries · 1905-1953
Part of The Unitarian Church of Montreal fonds

This sub-series contains the calendars created by the Church between 1905 and 1953. Although the earliest calendar exists from 1905, calendars exist on a consistent basis from 1909 to 1925 and then from 1927 to 1953. The pre-1921 calendars tend to have more detailed overview of the activities of the Church, including services, sermons, mariages, baptisms, deaths and other meetings, while the calendars dating after that are more akin to orders of service (see UCM-SE1-SU1 Orders of Service for more details).
